#40 The holistic parameter 88 in two Type B triangles, the 3-d Sri Yantra & the inner Tree of Life

 88 in 2 Type B triangles, 3-d Sri Yantra & 7 enfolded polygons

A Type B triangle contains 46 yods. Two Type B triangles joined at one side contain 88 yods. Compare this with the 3-dimensional Sri Yantra, in which 87 corners of 43 triangles surround its central bindu point. 87 is the number value of Levanah, the Mundane Chakra of Yesod. The four black yods on the root edge correspond to the bindu (source of Divine Creation) and to the three corners of the central triangle. The 28 red yods correspond to the 28 red corners of the 14 triangles in the fourth layer of the Sri Yantra, the 20 green yods correspond to the 20 green corners of the 10 triangles in the third layer, the 20 blue yods correspond to the 20 blue corners of the 10 triangles in the second layer and the 16 violet yods correspond to the 16 violet corners of the eight triangles in the first layer. (Coloured semicircles denote corners of triangles in two adjacent layers).

Now consider the inner Tree of Life. Its seven enfolded polygons have 47 sectors with 88 sides that correspond to the 88 yods in two joined, Type B triangles and to the 88 points defining the 3-dimensional Sri Yantra. The following table lists the numbers of sides on the boundary (denoted by lines) and in the interior (dashed lines) of each polygon when enfolded:

The numbers that make up the numbers of sides corresponding to the violet, blue, green & red triangles of the Sri Yantra are coloured accordingly. We see that a pattern of 1:1 correspondence exists between the 88 points in the Sri Yantra and the 88 sides of the sectors of the seven enfolded polygons of the inner form of the Tree of Life! The root edge corresponds, appropriately, to the bindu as the source of creation, whilst the three interior sides of the sectors of the triangle correspond to the three sides of the central triangle. Ambiguity of choice over coloured numbers making up a number denoting the corners in a layer can be eliminated by following the intuitively reasonable rule that layers of triangles with larger number of corners correspond to polygons with more corners. Such 1:1 correspondence between three geometrical objects refutes as highly improbable the suggestion that it is coincidence that they are quantified by the number 88.

In conclusion, the pattern of 88 yods generated by transforming a pair of bare triangles into Type B triangles is analogous to the pattern of 88 points generating the 3-dimensional Sri Yantra and to the pattern of 88 lines that create the sectors of the seven enfolded polygons making up the inner Tree of Life. This is because this number is one of the parameters that define holistic systems represented by sacred geometries.
